Obituary

Joan Nelson Ronon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, Joan was the daughter of Lauretta King Nelson and James J. Nelson, and the loving sister of Barbara Nelson McCabe. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart and later Harcum College.

Joan was married to the late Andrew T. Ronon Sr., whom she married on June 30, 1951. Together they built a beautiful life centered around family, friendship, and devotion to one another. Joan was a devoted mother to Lynne Ronon, James Ronon (Kimberly), Betsy Ronon Cohen (Richard), Gerald Ronon, and the late Andrew T. Ronon Jr.

She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren: Caroline Noce, Daniel Cohen, Mac Ronon, Lily Ronon, Brendon Ronon, Libby Ronon, and Tripp Ronon, as well as three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. Joan's family was always at the center of her life, and she was deeply attentive, loving, and supportive to those she cherished most.

In her younger years, Joan worked as a fashion model for local designers and television. Later, after raising her children, she began a successful career in the interior design business. She managed the Stroheim showroom and later the Scalamandré showroom at the Philadelphia Design Marketplace, where she earned recognition as Showroom Manager of the Year at Scalamandré.

Joan lived life with elegance, energy, and enthusiasm. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed great success playing croquet at The Merion Cricket Club, and was a passionate golfer at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.

Among her happiest memories were her summers in Nantucket, a place she dearly loved. Joan especially treasured celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary there, surrounded by family and friends after years of carefully planning the occasion.

Joan often marveled that she had lived to 96 years old - longer than anyone else in her family - and she embraced each day with gratitude, grace, and humor.

She will be remembered for her warmth, style, strength, and unwavering love for her family Joan's legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she so deeply treasured.
