Obituary

Jennifer Morrison of Bryn Mawr, 77, passed away on August 29, 2024 after a long struggle with dementia.  She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rita Salvo.

Jennifer was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and nonna - raising four children while pursuing her artistic passions.  She was a beautiful and elegant woman who appreciated fashion; during her college years, she modeled at the tea-time fashion shows at John Wanamaker's Crystal Tea Room.  An accomplished seamstress, she often made bespoke clothing for her family.  She loved to entertain, often hosting extended family for the holidays and friends throughout the year with delicious meals following recipes from her extensive archive of Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines.  Her pecan and lemon meringue pies were legendary, and the Junior League and Women's Exchange often requested she make them available for sale during various holidays.  She was also an active member of the Valley Forge Gun Club, a women's shooting club, and enjoyed shooting trap competitively.  On one occasion, she put her excellent marksmanship to good use saving the beloved family dog, Chessie, from a rabid raccoon.  Prior to her decline, Jennifer was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, the Assemblies, and the Acorn Club where she served on various committees.

Jennifer's greatest passion, other than her love of family, was flower-arranging through her memberships in the Garden Workers, the Garden Club of America (GCA), and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.  She studied the centuries-old art of Ikebana, as well as the more modern branch of Ikebana Sogetsu.  She often entered her artistic creations in competitions, including the Philadelphia Flower Show, bringing home many blue ribbons in multiple categories over the years, including Best of Show.  Jennifer was a GCA judge and was awarded lifetime Emerita status in 2019.  As much as Jennifer loved to design arrangements, even more, she loved to teach those skills to other members of her club, as well as her daughters and granddaughters.  Fulfilling hours were spent selecting plant material, perfecting designs, securing mechanics, and making each entry a masterpiece.

She was predeceased by her husband, Barclay "Clay" Morrison Jr. in 1995.  They met on a blind date in college (she at Immaculata and he at Villanova), instantly fell in love, and were soon married.  She always said that Clay was "the love of her life".  And nowhere was that more evident than on the dance floor cutting a rug or tooling around in their little soft-top MG.  Jennifer is survived by her brother John Salvo, her sister Tina McGettigan, and her four children and their spouses, Barclay Morrison III & Misti Ushio, Lea & Matthew Cohn, Justin Morrison & Carrie Moneymaker, and Meade Morrison & John Haslett, and six grandchildren, Sydney, Mackenzie Skylar, Clay, Theo, John and William who were everything to her.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Rd, Gladwyne PA on Friday September 6th at 11 AM. The family will be receiving visitors prior to Mass from 10 to 10:45 AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) , the Garden Club of America , or the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
