Jane Dagit Young of Newtown Square, PA, longtime volunteer and avid golfer died Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She was 86 at the time of her death.
Among her many volunteer organizations were the Mother's Clubs of Merion Mercy Academy and the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Hope Partnership for Education in North Philadelphia, Aids for Friends, and as a driver for Meals on Wheels until the age of 80.
She was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of St. Edmonds Home for Crippled Children in Rosemont serving as its President from 1986-1988. Recently, the Auxiliary honored Young for her 'lifetime of service' to St. Edmond's at its 84th Annual Cup Day on November 18, 2023.
Young also was a member of the Merion Golf Club for 64 years and was awarded its Spirit of Merion Award for her dedication to both the Junior and Ladies Golf Programs.
Young graduated from Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959.
The beloved wife of James F. Young, who passed in 2013. They were married for 53 years. She is survived by two sons, A. Christopher Young (Gita) and James Brinkerhoff Young; two daughters, Janet Young Spillane (Kieran) and Margaret Young Donohue (Jerry) and eight grandchildren, Brendan, Patrick, Kieran and Caitlin Spillane; Grace and Kevin Donohue; and Caroline and Lauren Young. She was the daughter of Charles E. Dagit and Janet Donnelly Dagit who passed in 1985 and 1997, respectively; sister of Ethel D. Cunningham, deceased (William), Louise M. Dagit and Charles E. Dagit, Jr. deceased (Alice).
Relatives and friends are invited on Tuesday June 18th, Visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 AM with Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Road, Gladwyne, PA. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Partnership for Education , 1701 N. 8th St., Phila., PA 19122-2807 or to St. Edmond's Home for Children, 320 S. Roberts Road, Rosemont, PA 19010.
