Obituary

James E. Wolfington, of Newtown Square, PA, born May 14, 1930, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 2, 2008. Known affectionately as "Honest Jim", he was an avid participant in life, passionately interested in people and not above the occasional practical joke.

As a young man he wore the cadet's uniform of Valley Forge Military Academy and then graduated from West Catholic High School in 1949. He attended LaSalle University before joining the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and serving with the 111th Fighter Wing in Spokane, Washington during the Korean Conflict.

He later joined his father and brothers in the family business, Wolfington Body Company, Inc., selling school buses, hearses and ambulances from Lansdowne Avenue in Philadelphia before the business relocated to Exton, PA. in 1972.

He was active in the local community, where he was one of the founding members of the Glenmoore - Eagle Lions' Club. He was also a member of St. Anastasia Church in Newtown Square.

Later in life he was able to pursue such varied interests as golf, a parachute jump at age 75, world travel, and wholehearted moral support of his children's and grandchildren's endeavors.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, Philomena J. Wolfington, as well as by three of his brothers, Harry, Jr., John and Robert.

He is survived by his children, Marie Jones (Fred), Barbara George (Steve), Eileen Fox (Pearce) and James Wolfington, Jr. ; his grandchildren, Liz and Alex George, Jake and Henry Jones, and Molly Fox as well as dear friends of the family, Patty, Allyson and Michael O'Donnell.

He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Rende' of Radnor and Sister Marie Louise Wolfington, R.S.C.J. of New Orleans and by his brother Richard I. Wolfington of Philadelphia.

A viewing will be held Monday October 6 from 7-9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 7 at St. Anastasia Church, West Chester Pike and Radnor Dr., Newtown Square. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
