James O. Sanders, of Wayne, PA, passed away peacefully and with dignity on Thursday May 19, 2016 at Paoli Hospital surrounded by friends and family. He was 49. Born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on August 16, 1966 to Robert Byron Sanders Jr. and Judith Oglee Sanders, he is survived by his mother, Judith, his older brother, Robert Byron Sanders III, his sister, Keryn Sanders Rush, brother-in-law, P. Bradley Rush Jr., niece, Katherine Cook Rush, and nephew, Samuel Robert Rush.
A graduate of Conestoga Senior High school, Jim attended Juniata College and Temple University in Philadelphia. A natural athlete, Jim enjoyed baseball, lacrosse, golf, and skiing. A few credits shy of his degree, Jim was injured in a diving accident in June of 1989, becoming a quadriplegic. Through months and months of hospitalizations, therapies, and rehabilitation, he was a constant inspiration to all around him. He rarely complained about his circumstances, maintaining a positive outlook despite the many challenges he faced on a daily basis.
Looking to the future, his parents acquired a small business in Florida with plans for him to eventually run it. That he chose to remain in his beloved Philadelphia near his closest friends was no surprise to anyone. With computer skills learned mostly at Magee Rehabilitation, Jim was able to start his own IT services company, onezero Technologies, which thrives to this day. Jim had been able to live for over twenty years in a wonderful home, supported by his caregiver and good friend, Deborah Swope. This would never have been possible had it not been for the Sanders Trust, created by some very special friends and area businessmen, to whom the family will be forever grateful.
With a true passion for the Philadelphia Eagles, hard-to-find recordings of Darryl Hall, and an encyclopedic memory of movie dialogue, Jim was always present for his friends and family with a sympathetic ear, a song lyric, a joke, or special memories of his favorite beaches and ponds on Cape Cod.
Family and friends would like to thank the staffs of Shore Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Magee Rehabilitation, Inglis House, and most of all, the J.O.S. Trust.
There will be a Celebration of Jim's Life Friday June 10, 10:00 AM at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the J.O.S. trust, c/o David Dugery at IMX Medical Management Services, 1700 Paoli Pike, Malvern, PA 19355.
