Obituary

JAMES T. R. MURPHY, SR., formerly of Wayne, PA., passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2006 at his residence in Morgantown , PA. He was 77.

Son of the late Frank and Constance Kirschner Murphy, he was born in 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and later became a diver for the U.S. Navy. In 1958 he was appointed a Pennsylvania State Constable from Radnor Township and he subsequently worked until December of 2005. He performed his Constable duties which included, but was not limited to, executing arrest warrants, tracking down fugitive felons, serving civil process and doing executions on property after judgement, and keeping the peace at the polls on Election Day. While most of his duties were performed in Radnor Township and Delaware County, often his job would take him into surrounding counties and many times into Philadelphia where he worked closely with other law enforcement entities.

He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Wack Murphy. Loving companion of Mary R. Hadden. Devoted father of Sheila McLaughlin (Charles), James T.R., Jr. (Justine), Frank (Tish), Mary Quilter (Francis), Barbara Panarello (Samuel), Mark (Anne Marie) and Margaret Regester (Daniel). Grandfather of Brendon, Kristin, Ryan, Shannon, Jessica, Carolyn, Conor, Gretchen, Jennifer, Megan, Briann, Daniel, Taylor and Matthew. Brother of Kathy McCuaig, Connie Muszall, Martha Murphy, Sally Wescott and the late Mary Jo Richardson. He is also survived by Mary's children and grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday February 7, 10:30 AM at St. Katharine of Siena Church, Lancaster & Aberdeen Aves., Wayne, PA. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday from 6:30 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore PA. or Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Church.
