Obituary

James Ellis McGrath, MD a retired radiologist from Newtown Square, PA, died on August 24, 2022 from heart failure.  He was 90 years old.  Dr. McGrath graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1950 and Yale University in 1954.  He went on to get his degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1958.  Jim interned at Bryn Mawr Hospital from July 1958 – June 1959.  He served as a physician in the United States Army in Stuttgart, Germany from August 1959 to July 1961.  Upon return to the United States, Jim completed his residency in Radiology at Bryn Mawr Hospital in September 1964.  He accepted a position at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden New Jersey in September 1964.  He went on to become the Director of the Radiology Department in 1978 and retired from that position in 1996.

Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed his love of the outdoors fishing and hunting.  He truly relished fishing on his boats in Cape May, New Jersey and Belgrade Lakes, Maine where he spent the summers. He had an avid sense of adventure and appreciation for travel, fly fishing and scuba-diving around the world.

A close second to the love of his family was his zealous love of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Margaret "Peggy", son James, Jr. "Jim" and wife Susie, daughter Susan Johnston and husband Jim, son Steve and wife Cheri, daughter Nancy Jameison and nine grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited on Friday September 16th  to a Visitation from 9 to 10:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Rd, Gladwyne PA.  Interment will be private for the family.
