James B. McGovern, Jr., M.D., passed away on Monday May 29, 2006 at his residence in Bryn Mawr, PA. He was 64.

Dr. McGovern was the son of the late James and Elizabeth McGovern. He was Born in Philadelphia on May 8, 1942. He graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School in 1960 and from St. Joseph's College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He earned a Masters degree in biology from Villanova University and taught at Cardinal O'Hara High School.

He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1970. He completed his internship and residency at Lankenau Hospital and also completed a fellowship in cardiology. Dr. McGovern practiced medicine at Lankenau Hospital from 1975 to 2004. He was a lifetime member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

Dr. McGovern was the beloved husband of Mary JoAnn McGovern (nee Paladino). Devoted father of James B. McGovern, III. (Christine), Angela Marie McGovern, M.D. and Mary Elizabeth McGovern. Loving grandfather of Julia Constance, James B., IV. and Ella JoAnn McGovern. Brother of Margaret McGovern, Bernard McGovern (Eileen), William McGovern (Tiada) and Marie Matthews (Donald). Brother-in-law of Rosemarie Paladino. He is also survived by 7 nephews and 1 niece.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday June 1, 10:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, Youngsford & Conshohocken State Rds., Gladwyne, PA. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA.
