James P. Connell, age 86, of Wayne, PA, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2021, surrounded by
his loving family.
Jim was born on May 21, 1935, in Narberth, PA to the late Michael and Agnes Connell, younger brother
of Jack and Tom (predeceased). He was a graduate of St. Margaret's catholic grade school and St.
Thomas More High School in Philadelphia, class of 1952. He earned a basketball scholarship to St. Joe's
College in Philadelphia, graduating in 1956. After college, Jim attended Naval Officer Candidate School
and served for three- and one-half years as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the USS Whetstone, navigating
the ship from San Diego to Hong Kong using only the stars and a sextant. Shortly after his discharge from
the Navy, Jim met the love of his life, Marilyn (nee Scheiter), in September of 1960. The couple was
married a year later on September 30, 1961 at St. Matthias Church in Bala Cynwyd, PA. In addition to
being the proud father of five daughters, Jim enjoyed playing tennis and golfing with friends, traveling
with his family, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Jim is survived by Marilyn and their five daughters, Eileen Connell, Kara Thompson (Michael), Patty
Pawlow (Eric), Katie White (Chris) and Beth Green (Phil), and his thirteen grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 18, 2021, at St. Matthias
Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will
follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
