Jacqueline "Jackie" Aspen (nee McClintock), of Haverford, formerly of Ardmore, PA., passed away on February 6, 2012 at Vitas Hospice at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. after battling lung cancer. She was 72.
She was the devoted mother of Janet Aspen (Joseph Polizzotto) of Brooklyn, NY, Laurie Cox (John) Deptford, NJ, John (Katherine) of Deptford, NJ, Darcianne Aspen of Reading, PA., Terri Hartman (Newton) of Stuart, FL. and the late Karen Cunningham. Dear sister of Joanne Gasbarro and Jon McClintock. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Thomas Carey, the love of her life and companion for 33 years, predeceased her in 2009. Born at Bryn Mawr Hospital on July 1, 1939, Jackie was raised in Narberth and graduated from Lower Merion High School. She was a school bus driver and campus aid for Lower Merion Township School District, which was her employer for 32 years. She retired in 2005 to care for Tom, who was ill. Jackie loved anything to do with food - she was an excellent cook, fan of the cooking shows, and of course, loved to dine out. She also enjoyed watching the birds who came to her feeders. Thanks to the excellent care of her doctors at the Lankenau Cancer Center, she was able to squeeze in cruises to Turkey, Greece and Alaska in the last year of her life, as well as smaller trips, in between chemo treatments.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday February 9, 10 AM at St Colman Church, Lancaster Ave. & Argyle Rd., Ardmore. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Vitas Hospice, 1300 Wolf St., 2nd Fl., Phila. PA 19148.
