Irene Slawter

Irene Slawter passed away on August 27, 2026 at home in Wayne, PA.

Irene was born on July 28, 1944, in Miami to Frank and Mary Taconelli, of Philadelphia. She was the oldest of three children, born at a time when Frank was stationed at Miami Beach with the US Army.

A long-time resident of Havertown and Bryn Mawr, PA, Irene remained dedicated to her roots throughout a loving life. Irene met her husband Barry in the 7th grade, prior to their attending Haverford High School together, and then marrying in 1966.

Irene was devoted to family. She adored her extended family network of cousins and dedicated her life to raising her two children.

She was a master homemaker and cook, and was deeply committed to keeping an incredibly clean home.

In her later years, Irene cherished opportunities to vacation with family and connect regularly to her network of cousins and friends, and returned to Havertown.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Barry, who passed in 2002, and her parents. She is survived by sons Barry (Ellen) and Michael (Alexandra), grandchildren Nate, Bianca, and Madeleine; her sister and brother, Carol Couey and Frank Taconelli, their families; and many beloved cousins.

Internment at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken PA will be private, with the family to notify loved ones of a September celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Irene’s name to the Emphysema Foundation of America.
