Helene Mary Purtell McIntyre, formerly of Newtown Square, PA, Palm Harbor, FL and Wynnewood, PA, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Bryn Mawr Terrace in Bryn Mawr, PA. She was 91.

Daughter of the late Michael J. & Rose M. McGettigan Purtell, she was born in Philadelphia on July 21, 1922. She was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls and attended Chestnut Hill College until her wedding in New Orleans, LA in 1944. In addition to raising her family, she also volunteered for many years at Bryn Mawr Hospital.


She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. McIntyre for sixty years; Devoted mother of Robert J., McIntyre, Jr. and wife Ann of Strafford, PA, Rosemary E. McIntyre, M.D. of Ventura, CA, and Helene (Lee) McIntyre and husband Mark Wiessner of Baltimore, MD. Loving grandmother of Heather Miller, Kelley Wolfe, Megan Woods, Kathleen Sweet, Megan Wiessner, and Grace Wiessner. Great-grandmother of Caitlin and Lyndsey Miller, Justin, Josephine and Cullen Wolfe and Brennan Woods. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Purdy of Clearwater, FL and Dorothea McDermott of Jacksonville, FL.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 19, 2014, 10 AM at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the Church after 9 AM. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
