Harry Joseph Wolfington's extremely full life was celebrated over a three day period where his wife Carol Ann and all seven of his children and spouses came together in what they called "The greatest experience of their lives." All of them stayed in one small hospice room, sleeping on floors, chairs, and by his side just to be with him, praying, singing, talking, laughing, healing. The family was in awe by how beautiful he looked, how peaceful he was and the countless miracles that surrounded his ascension into heaven.
One does not have to look far to find people who have been touched by the life of Harry Wolfington and his legacy, which includes his wife Carol Ann and 7 children, Harry Wolfington Jr. (Tonya), Lisa Corcoran (Joe), Sharon Wolfington, Chris Wolfington (Darlene), Stephany Ziegler (John), Ryan Wolfington, Sean Wolfington (Ana), 31 grandchildren, 9 brothers and sisters and 75 nieces and nephews. Harry went to heaven peacefully April 20, 2013 at the Hospice at Palm Beach County, a memory his family will cherish for the rest of their lives as the place where they saw their father enter heaven while they sang, "I can only imagine." It was beautiful.
Harry Joseph Wolfington is the son of J. Eustace and Mary Margaret Wolfington. He was born in Secane, Pennsylvania and lived in Overbrook and Haverford with his 9 brothers and sisters. After attending Our Lady of Lourdes, Malvern Prep and Villanova University he married his childhood sweetheart Carol Ann Duffy. The two fell in love over their good times in Avalon, New Jersey and their common commitment to the principles of the Catholic Church, getting married at Villanova University Church on October 8, 1960. This year Harry and Carol Ann will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary.
As a husband Harry was his wife Carol Ann's guardian, confidant, spiritual partner and best friend. Carol Ann, not knowing what she will do without her "lovey dove," realizes his spirit is with her at all times, with the sound of the waves, the chirping of the birds, and in the holy spirit that guides her in every moment.
Harry has a picture with Carol in their bathroom that could be his motto, "It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." Harry would light up a room the minute he entered, and when he left you would never forget him. Harry will be with us forever, carrying forward his loving, humble, funny, giving, spiritual nature, one loved by all.
Harry enjoyed watching his children's activities, coaching grade school football, working on Catholic Charities, Parish social functions, the hope program at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, but what he loved most was being a Eucharistic Minister at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He shared this with his wife Carol Ann, something that will connect them forever.
Harry treasured his times at Philadelphia Country Club with family and friends; Memories of golf, tennis, "the pool," "Dinners on the patio" and his recent men's bridge group could fill books with meaningful stories of a glorious life. We're just wild about Harry!
Harry treasured spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren including Sunday night dinners, the Poconos, the annual Christmas Eve parties, gardening, sports activities, checkers, backgammon, horseshoes and saying the rosary. Harry was the "King" of Backgammon and Bridge at Island House NE in Jupiter, Florida. He enjoyed being on the Board of Directors for eight years where he met so many wonderful, caring friends. Jupiter was a special place for him. Harry was extremely close with his brothers and sisters. They invoked his deepest of feelings.
At 35 years old Harry opened his first dealership, Hill Volkswagen and later Wolfington Leasing. In 1991 he had the privilege to work with his brother Eustace, sister Peg and son Sean at Half-A-Car. Here he found his voice where his talents of listening and leadership were highlighted.
Harry's love of God and his Catholic faith was the center of his life, and all that comes from living a life of truth. He faced his fears, fallibility and imperfections like a humble servant of the Lord. He was an example, forgiven of his trespasses and taken to his glory. His children will never forget his sensitivity, kindness, fragility, strength, honor and courage. His wife and children will always feel his quiet presence, undying support and spiritual guidance.
In his final hours his family is speechless about what they saw and experienced. If you could imagine everything that was great about our dad, his family, his wife Carol Ann, and join it with the Holy Spirit on his way to visit his father in Heaven, you would just begin to scratch the surface of the miracle we have all been lucky enough to be a part of. The miracle of our father, now in heaven. "Let us be one," he once said, and his family answered by doing so.
The viewing for family and friends will be Monday evening April 29th from 6-9 PM at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday April 30, 10:30 AM at the Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to a scholarship fund created in Harry's name at his son Ryan's "Inspiring Children youth foundation" at 4316 Fortune Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89107.
