H. William ("Vily") Ender, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, on June 23, 2026.
Born on September 6, 1931, in Ankara, Turkey, Vily was the son of Menase and Refka Ender.
Vily graduated from Robert College in Istanbul before earning his master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. He began his professional career as a general building contractor and later pursued a variety of entrepreneurial ventures, always drawn to new ideas and opportunities.
Vily came to the United States on his own and built a life defined by determination, resilience, and optimism. Here, he met the love of his life, Anita Silver, whom he married. Following Anita's passing, Vily devoted himself to raising their young children, demonstrating extraordinary strength and devotion as a single father.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Weinstein; his son, Farrell Ender, and daughter-in-law, Jessica Ender; his sister, Meral Libenson; and his five beloved grandchildren, Anna, Ethan, Avery, Lola, and Charlie, who affectionately knew him as "Poppy." He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Silver; his parents, Menase and Refka Ender; and his son-in-law, Adam Weinstein.
Vily approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm. Travel brought him great joy, especially anywhere near the water. He was an avid reader with an endlessly curious mind and even challenged himself to learn conversational French and Spanish later in life. He loved soccer and tennis, appreciated good music, enjoyed playing backgammon, and could often be found watching Turkish soap operas.
Those who knew Vily will remember his quiet confidence, timeless style, and genuine warmth. He was handsome, intelligent, independent, impeccably mannered, and effortlessly gracious. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, carried himself with quiet dignity, and believed that kindness, good manners, and optimism never went out of style. People were naturally drawn to him. His physicians often remarked how happy they were to see his name on their schedules—a reflection of the warmth and positivity he brought to every interaction. His grandchildren fondly recall how effortlessly "Poppy" connected with their friends, making everyone feel welcome.
Above all, Vily will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, curiosity, and grace that will continue to inspire those who loved him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A private graveside service for immediate family will be held on June 29, 2026.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects at the home of Farrell and Jessica Ender (411 Haywood Road, Merion Station, PA 19066) on Monday, June 29, beginning at 4:00 p.m., and Tuesday, June 30, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation.
