Obituary

Glenn Edward Riggs, Sr., 71, of Bryn Mawr, PA., passed away early Sunday December 9, 2007 surrounded by his family after a long and stubborn battle with cancer.

Mr. Riggs began his life in Rush, Kentucky on November 16, 1936. He was the son of the late Samuel Hardin Riggs II and Glenna Aleene Gabbert Riggs. He joined the army in November 1953 and served his tour of duty in Germany until October 1956. During this time he was honored with three medals. He remained in the Army Reserves until 1961.
Once stateside, Mr. Riggs worked in the coal mines of West Virginia before settling in Bryn Mawr.

In 1957, Mr. Riggs began working for J. W. Bickers Tree Service Inc., a company established in 1927 and purchased by him in 1974. He just retired his company in February 2007.

After the Page & Biddle fire in Bryn Mawr in 1970 he began many years of volunteer service with The Bryn Mawr Fire Company where he remained an active member of the board until his death.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa Kucharski Riggs and their six children: Christine Whitworth (Mike), Samuel Hardin III (the late, Angie), Glenn Jr. (Trina), Donna Thomas, Jonathan (Lori), and William Edward (Heather). A brother, Ronald, three sisters, Donna Griffith, Mary Clark, and Nancy Claxon, eleven grandchildren, and an estranged daughter also survive him.

Glenn, Ed, Riggsy, Bossman, however you knew him, endeared himself (or not) to all who knew and loved him during his many years of loyal and dedicated living and working among us. He will be sorely missed.

If the Good Lord is willing and the creeks don't rise a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 14 at 12 noon at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home after 10 AM. Interment West Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bryn Mawr Hospital Cancer Research Center, 130 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
