Gertrude Hayden (Cook) Maguire, 94, formerly of Merion, PA and Baltimore, MD, died on September 14, 2016 surrounded by her family in West Chester, PA. Trudy was born in Baltimore, MD, on April 16, 1922, daughter of the late Victor Cornelius and Elizabeth (Bowling) Cook. She attended Notre Dame of Maryland High School and College. She married William Joseph Maguire in Baltimore, MD in 1951. She lived at Wellington Retirement Community for the past 11 years, and will be missed by many friends. Trudy was a loving mother and grandmother, a great friend, an avid cook, and a prolific knitter of hats for newborns and prayer shawls for the ill.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hayden Maguire of Radnor, PA, her granddaughter Amanda (Steve) Clancy of Chappaqua, NY, and her two great-grandchildren, Liam and Bryn Clancy, her sisters Julia Bevan Flynn of Boston, MA and Margaret (James) Hunt of Seattle, WA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, William Joseph Maguire, Jr. in 1972, her husband, William Joseph Maguire in 2006, her brothers Frederick, Victor, Benjamin, and James Cook, and her sister Elizabeth Cavanaugh.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation on Tuesday September 20, 10 to 11 AM with Funeral Mass to start at 11 AM at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers Mass Cards are preferred.
