Francis J.
Beston
September 29, 1930 – September 14, 2018
Francis J. "Frank" Beston, formerly of Rosemont, PA., passed away on September 14, 2018 at Bellingham Retirement Community in West Chester, PA. He was 87.
Frank was born on September 29, 1930 in Rockville Center, NY. Frank moved to the Philadelphia area after his service in the military to start his lifelong career in the pharmaceutical industry and to marry. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Marguerite "Peggy" Beston for 62 years before her passing this June. He was a loving husband, father of four, grandfather of nine, brother, and friend.
Frank attended Manhattan College and graduated with a B.S. in Biology, and was an enthusiastic and involved student. He included Senior Editor of the newspaper, Associate Editor of the yearbook, and Fraternity brother to his long list of involvements.
Frank proudly served in the military for three years in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant. Frank focused on correspondence and administration of staff and squadron during his international travel with the Navy.
Frank spent over three decades in his career at SmithKline becoming a Human Resources Generalist specializing in Executive Recruitment, Relocation Policy Development, and Employment Management at the corporate level, as well as in divisions of SKF Labs, Research and Development, Consumer Products, and Animal Health.
In his retirement, Frank was involved in the Pharmaceutical Consortium as a member and board member; he organized the SmithKline Retiree Group and was a member of the Retiree Advisory Board. He also volunteered at The Red Cross blood drives, Project H.O.P.E., and participated in Recording for the Blind. He was also the Treasurer for the Friends and Family of Hamburg Center, which was an organization supporting the well-being and proper care of the severely disabled.
Frank was a man of deep faith and a lifelong Catholic, and he volunteered at St. Thomas of Villanova Parish as a Lector for many years. He was also involved with the St. Thomas Players and choir among other volunteer positions with the parish.
Frank was a warm-hearted, jovial, curious, creative, knowledgeable man with countless interests. Whether it was re-building his back porch, rewiring his home, or teaching his grandchildren about navigation by the stars, Frank was always teaching, learning and wanting to have an engaging conversation. More important than his professional accomplishments, Frank derived his greatest joy from his family and was happiest when laughing with his wife Peggy, his children, grandchildren and his beloved siblings. He was fearless in taking on any task, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
Frank was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite "Peggy" Beston (nee Reynolds). Devoted father of Marguerite "Peggy" Stathes (Nick), Francis Lyons Beston, Richard J. Beston (Ann) and Grace Enderlein (Bob). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and his sisters Ellie Owens and Ruth Maksym. He was predeceased by 4 other siblings.
