Frances M. Bottger (nee McGurn) passed away on Monday January 15, 2007 at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr Retirement Center. She was 86.
Daughter of the late James and Mary Campion McGurn, she was born in New York City in 1920. Mrs. Bottger was an accomplished self taught squash player who achieved six national titles including the women's doubles championship in 1961, the seniors doubles championship in 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1964, and the national seniors singles championship in 1962. She continued to play squash well into her 70's.
Mrs. Bottger was an avid collector of period antique furniture and maintained a life long passion for interior design. She enjoyed working at the Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop as a volunteer for many years. She had many friends throughout the years who also enjoyed similar interests.
She lived at Beaumont Retirement Center for the past three years. Prior to that she had lived in Villanova and Bryn Mawr. She enjoyed many friends and had an active social life. She lived a strong and healthy life until the last month when she bravely and with dignity succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
She was the beloved wife of the late John Royle Bottger. Devoted mother of John B. Bottger, M.D. and David A. Bottger, M.D. (Karen). Loving grandmother of Hanna R., Kathryn G. and the late Tess A. Bottger. Sister of Sheila Keeler (Philip) of Mexico, Terrance Keenan (Joette) of Newtown, PA. and the late Alice M. Tompkins of Jenkintown, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service Saturday January 20, 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA. Interment will be private.
