Obituary

My mother, Florence Ilene Ginn, passed away peacefully in her home on the afternoon of April 6, 2021. Her long battle with Alzheimer's disease ended gently, with my daughter, Catherine, joining me at her bedside for the quiet farewells. It was a moment I had anticipated — after all, she had been on hospice for years — and yet it somehow caught me by surprise. Until the final few hours, it had been just another ordinary Tuesday, until it wasn' t .

Following a predictable path, the disease had erased much of what connected us as mot her and daughter, but despite those gaps, other qualities endured, including her trademark humor and spontaneous expressions of appreciation and affection. As long as it was possible, she liked to reminisce, reanimating my own recollections and giving her granddaughter glimpses of a life long ago.

And quite an interesting life it was. She was born on November 21, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Louis and Agnes Cibula , graduated from Munhall High School, and went on to attend Carnegie Tech. She began he r career working for The Westinghouse Corporation, and later became a flight attendant for TWA and American Airlines.

In the 1960's she moved to Philadelphia where she met and married William S. Ginn and lived most of her life in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed entertaining, routinely including friends with distant families for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Her motto was the more the merrier. She was an active volunteer for a number of years and often said being a hospice volunteer was most rewarding.

She was an avid and accomplished sportswoman. A longtime member of the Philadelphia Country Club, she was proud to represent PCC in the highly competitive Women's Trap Shooting League, becoming club champion in 1980. Additionally, she was a member of the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania and The Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont, whe re she went for summer holidays until her declining health prevented travel.

A devoted member of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, she hardly ever missed a Sunday or holiday service.

She was a long and loyal member and officer of the Devon Dog Show Asso ciation. She will be remembered as a "dog person" with a special fondness for Labrador Retrievers. She was a voracious reader, often finishing a book in a day, and a gifted artist with a flair for interior design. She had tremendous style and an eye for fashion and was always well dressed. She got great joy from playing the piano, with a repert oire that spanned generations and genres.

Of course , as soon as she arrived, her granddaughter Catherine became the apple of my mother's eye, mirroring devoted grandparents everyw here by attending any activities in which she was invol v e d . It was a joy to witness.

She was predeceased by her husband William S. Ginn , her sister Lois A. Cinello of Bethel Park, PA. and a stepson Edward H. Ginn of Pittsfield MA. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Ginn Mottes , and a granddaughter Catherine Grace Mottes both of Wayne, PA .; a stepdaughter Elizabeth G. Moran of Sierra Madre, CA and a stepson William S. Ginn (Twila) of Carl s bad CA; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial is scheduled for 11 o'clock on Friday, April 16, 2021 in the chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania.
