Eugene Leo Kuryloski, 91, died peacefully on March 30, 2007. He lived at Shannondell for the past 2 years with his wife, Mary, after living in Penn Valley for almost 50 years. He was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on May 14, 1915. He graduated from The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1937. After an extremely successful 35 year career with Sharp & Dohme, then Merck, Sharp & Dohme, and finally Merck &Co., he retired as Vice President in charge of Sales and Marketing in 1971. His love and respect for Merck &Co. continued throughout his life and the company's admiration of him was evident by his yearly invitation to their Christmas luncheon.
Gene had many hobbies – fishing, tying flies, hunting and reading, but mostly working with and carving wood. He made many ship models, pieces of furniture and small utilitarian objects that were given as gifts to his many relatives and friends.
Gene and Mary traveled extensively to 6 continents, always keeping diaries and photographic records of their trips. They also loved their cottage in the Poconos, which they visited each season.
Gene married his college sweetheart, Mary Barnisky, in 1940. They both graduated from The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1937, and continued their life of great love and respect for each other for 66 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sonja Keohane (Richard), Janice Carson (Michael) and sons, John (Kathryn) and James (Paula), and eleven grandchildren – Christopher, Meghan, Lara, Carolyn, Katherine, Michael, Justin, Philip, Mark, Andrew, Matthew and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Leo, Zachary, Zoë and Brady.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Margaret's Church in Narberth on April 2 with interment at Calvary Cemetery.
