Obituary

Elizabeth Annette Kunik, of Delray Beach, Florida, Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, loving mother and devoted wife, died on April 9th, 2009. She is survived by her husband Robert Kunik, daughters Mary Ellen Conway, Joeanne Kunik, Betsy Kunik, and Barbara Malfitano, son Robert P. Kunik, and grandchildren Jennifer Smith, Ryan Malfitano, Taylor Malfitano, Lindsay Kunik, Margaret Kunik, and Grace Kunik, and a sister, Patricia H. Brunell. She is preceded in death by a son, Thomas John Kunik, a granddaughter, Alexis Kunik Smith and a son-in-law, Jett Lambert Smith III. She was the daughter of Nettie Moyer and John Hobbs.

"Betty" was born on March 6th, 1927 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to a typical extended Irish family who embraced her after her mother's early death, especially her beloved Uncle Emmet and Aunt Mame.

In 1944, Betty entered the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing Cadette Corp program and this was the beginning of her life of serving others. In 1950, she married Bob Kunik of Atlantic City, New Jersey and they started a life together that spanned some 59 years. In addition to raising a large family and supporting her husband in his successful business, Betty and Bob had many years of happiness highlighted by their times at Overbrook Golf Club, the Jersey Shore, and trips to Europe.

After many years of taking care of her kids and husband, Betty took up golf in 1976 and the game provided her many years of enjoyment and camaraderie with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed playing at Pinetree Golf club and The Little Club in Gulfstream, Fl.

Betty faced many obstacles and tragedies in her life, but she always faced them with strength, courage, and most importantly a never ending devotion to her Roman Catholic faith.

The family will receive friends at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gladwyne, PA. at 10:15am on Wednesday, April 15, preceding the funeral mass, which begins at 11am. Interment is private.
