Obituary

Edward "Ed" Klinges, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026 and joined his beloved wife, whom he had missed dearly for the past ten years, in Heaven.

Born in 1933 in Philadelphia to Charles and Dorothy Klinges, Ed was raised in the Overbrook section alongside his brothers, Charles and Robert. Growing up just down the street from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, it was on that very street that Ed met a little girl named "Sunny," whom he would later marry at the same church in 1956. As a young boy, Ed spent his summers sailing in Margate and enjoyed competing for the Margate Yacht Club.

After graduating from Villanova, Ed served in the US Navy aboard the USS Terrebonne Parish (LST 1156). Once he completed his service, he joined his two older brothers in the family business, Mohawk Tile & Marble. As a second-generation leader of a remarkable family tile company founded in 1934, Ed helped build a business that served architects, designers, and tile contractors throughout Philadelphia, Delaware, and South Jersey area. Many of those relationships lasted over 60 years, continuing until his retirement at age 91. Ed took great pride in working closely with the architectural and design community in Philadelphia. Always dressed in a suit and tie, his fingerprints can be found on countless projects throughout the city. Among the most notable were buildings at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia International Airport, the Municipal Services Building, and the Pennsylvania Convention Center, among many others.

The business continues today under the leadership of his son Mike and his nephews Charlie and Bob Klinges, with a fourth generation of grandsons proudly carrying on the legacy that began nearly a century ago.

Ed officially retired from Mohawk at age 91 to relax and fully enjoy the arrival of his newest great-grandchild, Sophia, last year.

Throughout his lifetime, Ed rarely missed a Villanova football or basketball game, faithfully cheering on his beloved Wildcats as a season ticket holder and proud alumnus for over 60 years, alongside his lifelong best friend Al Phelan.

Ed is survived by his four children: Ted (Robin), Mike (Colette), Lizanne, and Meg (Richard); his seven grandchildren: Joe, Matt, Patrick, Rachel (Evan), Emily, Richard Jr., and Michaela; and his great-granddaughter, Sophia.
