Edith Raymond Walsh (nee Steele), 74,of Nantucket, MA and Bryn Mawr PA., died peacefully at home in the company of her family on Sunday January 17, 2021 after a brave 18 year struggle with Parkinson's Disease. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Anthony Edan, daughters Juliet Davis (Michael) of Short Hills NJ, and Bretany Pilko (Christopher) of Broomall PA and son Andrew Edan (Colleen Heisey) of McLean, Virginia, and ten grandchildren in the order of their birth: William, Eleanor, Charles, Peter, Theodore, Thomas, August Edan, Wesley, Nathaniel, and Elizabeth.
Edith is also survived by her sister Marion Williams (John Randall) of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Uncle Richard Steele of Connecticut and Aunt Joyce Steele of Shannondell, King of Prussia, PA.
Edith was preceded in death by her father Raymond Steele, her mother Julia Barnard and brother Peter Wesley of Mexico City.
Edith was a graduate of Rosemont College and thereafter a social worker in Chester County PA. She followed her husband into the Navy and gave birth to their first child at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Later she trained as a docent at the Barnes Foundation. She taught herself Braille and worked as a volunteer at the Overbrook School for the Blind recording Books For The Blind. Edith was accomplished at her piano, in her needlework and in her painting. Edith enjoyed a friendly game of bridge, was always gracious and gifted with a short cutting wit.
Edith took great joy in maintaining her home in Nantucket for forty years as a direct descendant of Robert and Thomas Barnard. Edith was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (William Raymond, Connecticut), Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century (Thomas Hooker, Connecticut) and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (John Alden).
Interment was at the historic Longwood Cemetery.
