Obituary

Doris Schuchter, age 86, died peacefully in her home on June 10, 2017 in Haverford, PA.  Daughter of William and Eleanor Brown, Doris was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She was an only child but spent her childhood alongside her beloved cousins, the Skoogs: Bob, Glen, Ralph, and Dick.

Doris graduated from Northwestern Nursing School in Chicago. Her career was devoted to public health nursing and she worked at Oakland County Health Department for over 30 years in Michigan.  She had a passion for the elderly and served on many boards and committees to ensure the highest standards of care for elderly patients, especially those in nursing homes. She really never took off her public health nurse hat. Even when she moved to the Quadrangle, an independent living facility in 2015, she volunteered at the  dementia unit planning birthday parties for the residents, teaching bridge, and of course gardening.

You could say Doris was the consummate volunteer.  She poured herself into activities including League of Women's Voters, Troy Historical Society, and of course her beloved Troy Garden Club. In all of her endeavors, she took on leadership roles and had high expectations for all those around her.  In short, Doris got things done.

She had a love of travel, sailing, gardening and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children- Lynn Schuchter of Haverford, Pa (spouse John Broaddus, sons Ethan and Andrew Broaddus); Janet Schuchter of Wakefield, Ma (spouse, Paul Dixon, daughter Emma White) and Phil Schuchter of Akron, Oh (sons Grant and Reid Schuchter.)

She was predeceased in death by her son, Steven Schuchter and her former husband Sidney Schuchter.

She had a great love for her children and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 24, at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home. Price Chapel, 3725 Rochester Road, Troy Michigan.  Family will receive friends and family from 10:30-11:00 am with service to follow from 11:00 am to 12:00.  Bring a story to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Troy Garden Club, PO Box 833. 2844  Livernois Road Troy, Michigan 48099
