Obituary

Donald J. Shavney, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Wayne Nursing Center in Wayne, Pennsylvania after battling a long illness. Donald was born September 10 th , 1931 to Peter and Ruth (Purvis) Shavney in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was one of six children. He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1949. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, Company M, 11 th infantry from 1948-1957. He married Gladys Porch in 1959. Donald retired from Control Data Corporation as a Senior Test Engineer in 1986.  He was an Amateur Radio Operator (K3TCF), a member of the Valley Forge Signal Seekers a Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club and a proud member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed biking, computers, reading, rebuilding Steinway Pianos, restoring automobiles and fixing anything that was broken.

Donald is survived by his wife, Gladys and their 3 children, Kevin Shavney (Liz), Colleen Foley, and Maureen Dubow (Ivan); grandchildren, Patrick, Cassandra, Phoenix and Chase. His siblings include: Peter Shavney, Richard Shavney (Dolores), Ruth Vanderlaag Bledsoe (Roger), Arlene Oualline Cole (George) and 12 nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Shavney.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 7 th , 2017 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Wayne, PA at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Main Line Meals on Wheels or Dementia Society of America.
