Obituary

DeWitt Holt, Jr., of Bryn Mawr, PA., passed away on September 21, 2010 at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was 87.

Son of the late Dewitt & Anna Platt Holt, he was born in Bala Cynwyd, PA in 1923. DeWitt worked in the packaging industry for over 40 years, employed by Smythe Paper and by Automated Packaging Systems. He served in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1946 on the USS Rhodes a destroyer escort which shot down a German plane in April of 1944. He went on to participate in many USS Rhodes reunions. DeWitt volunteered his time to many causes including Service Elderhostels to the Hopi and Navajo Indian schools, volunteering holidays at the Missionaries of Charity in Norristown, and Narberth Ambulance Corp. He was a member of Cassia Mt. Horeb Masonic Lodge in Ardmore, where he recently received his 50 Year Pin. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed travelling with his wife, Rosemary, around the world. Some of his favorite places were the Holy Land, Passion Play 2010, African safaris and Antarctica.

He was the beloved husband of 40 years of Rosemary Holt (nee Valentine). Devoted father of Alice Mantz (Jeff), Eleanor Isayeff (Senya) and DeWitt Holt, III. (Kim). Loving grandfather of Christine, Allison, Veronica, Emily, Katherine, Daniel, Deborah and DeWitt, IV. Great grandfather of Abram. He is also survived by his sisters Mildred Holt Vanderbeck and Catherine Holt Parsons.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Friday September 24 from 7 to 9 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA or Saturday September 25 from 9:45 to 10:15 AM at St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Ln., Bryn Mawr, PA with Funeral Mass to begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Missionaries of Charity, 630 DeKalb Pike, Norristown, PA 19401.
