Denise Drummond Paviglianiti

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Denise Drummond Paviglianiti, who died on September 11, 2026 after facing cancer with remarkable courage and strength. Denise devoted her life to caring for others—not only through her profession, but in the countless ways she gave her knowledge, compassion, determination, and heart to the people around her.

For many years, Denise served as a critical care Nurse Practitioner, offering her patients both expert care and a reassuring presence. Her curiosity was boundless, and she remained a devoted student and teacher throughout her life. Later in her career, she taught nursing at Immaculata and Holy Family Universities and BLS/ACLS at Temple University. She also worked at Wolters Kluwer for over 25 years, serving as the Senior Clinical Editor for Nursing2026. In each role, she shared the wisdom she had gained, encouraged future generations of nurses, and strengthened the profession she loved so deeply. Denise received nursing degrees at Gwynedd-Mercy College, MCP Hahnemann University, and Villanova University.

Denise was also a devoted Catholic, and her Faith was a deeply meaningful part of her life. She was a Lector for Mass readings for many years. Denise especially loved the traditions of Holy Week, including attending morning prayers and evening services each day, and the solemn beauty of Tenebrae, with its many readings and extinguishing candle lights during the final days of Holy Week. Her faith was not simply something she practiced—it was woven into the traditions, community, and her loving relationships. Denise was selected to serve as one of the Apostles for the Feet Washing Ceremony at the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper, a role that she embraced and cherished. On Good Friday, Denise had the honor of leading the Stations of the Cross at her church service, portraying the Blessed Mother’s thoughts and feelings at each Station, a responsibility that she embraced wholeheartedly and performed beautifully. Denise’s faith-journey was a reflection of the devotion, sincerity, and spirit she brought to the things she held dearly.

Music was one of Denise’s great joys and one of the many ways she connected with others. She especially loved the “oldies,” learned to play the bagpipes, and treasured her Monday afternoon DJ volunteer work for many years on WRDV-FM 89.3, specializing in Big Band,1940’s and 1950’s music. Behind the microphone, Denise shared more than songs—She shared her enthusiasm, her knowledge, and the unmistakable spirit that made time with her so memorable, especially for the elderly.

Denise also delighted in the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. Like her father, Harry, she embraced every part of the season—the traditions, decorations, music, and, above all, the happiness of gathering with family. Her annual viewings of The Mouse on the Mayflower at Thanksgiving and A Christmas Story on Christmas Day became beloved family rituals, woven into the memories of those who celebrated beside her.

Denise’s Bouvier des Flandres dogs held a tender place in her heart. Tessie, her beloved and constant companion, and Snickers and Doogie before her brought Denise immeasurable joy, comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love. Anyone who knew Denise understood that her dogs were not simply pets; they were cherished members of her family.

Above all, Denise loved her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark Paviglianiti, for whom she was his North Star. Denise cherished her daughter, Kimmy Malkowski and her husband, Ryan; and adored her grandchildren, Landon and Hayden Rose Malkowski. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Laura Paviglianiti and four loving sisters, Mary Ann Drummond, Anita Howald (Chris), Maureen Romero (Gregg), and Meg Drummond Ciesielka (Rob); her niece and nephews, Kate and Ryan Ciesielka, and Sean Drummond (Blair),; and many extended family members, dear friends and Kimmy’s father, Gary Hayes. Denise was predeceased by her beloved parents, Harry J. Drummond and Rose J. Drummond.

No list of accomplishments or titles could ever fully capture Denise. She will be remembered for her generous heart; her fierce devotion to family, friends, patients, students, and colleagues; her quick wit; her strength and leadership; and her lifelong love of learning. She had a rare gift for making life more interesting, more colorful, and far more memorable. The love she gave, the lessons she shared, and the joy she brought into so many lives will remain her enduring legacy. Denise will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited on Wednesday September 16th - Visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 AM with Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas of Villanova Church (University Campus), 800 Lancaster Ave., Villanova PA 19085. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Denise’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
