Daniel Robert McAlaine, born on December 13, 1983, passed away on March 21, 2026 at the age of 42, after a long hard-fought battle with addiction.

His positive energy was contagious and his enthusiasm for adventure unmatched, which had him suiting up for triathlons, scuba diving, sky diving, and ultramarathons.  A natural athlete, he loved and excelled at soccer, football, basketball, baseball, golf, and most recently pickleball. He'd challenge anyone to a match of cornhole and keep you laughing the entire game with his antics.

He was beloved by everyone he met, from dogs at the park, caddies on the golf course, teammates, and friends in recovery, to his parents, siblings, his dog Boots, and his nephews.  He took great interest in his nephews, having raucous catches with them fueled by enthusiastic high-fives, and he cared for his parents as they aged.

He will be missed greatly, especially his charm, kindness, Christmas morning potatoes, his sense of humor, and fantastic story telling complete with spot-on impersonations.

Dan, known affectionately as Danny to his family, is survived by his parents, Anne and Bob McAlaine, his brother Tom McAlaine, his sister Molly Dagit, brother-in-law Murdoch Dagit, his sister Katie McAlaine, brother-in-law Zeke Callanan, and his four nephews.

In lieu of flowers, tributes can be sent to The Gesu School .
