Daniel N. Ehart, 89, of Wayne, former editor and co-publisher of the Suburban & Wayne Times, passed away March 12, 2013.
Born in 1923, in Wayne, to Albert M. and Anna Dunne Ehart, he entered the family newspaper business after his honorable discharge from the U.S Army Air Corps in 1945. For the next 35 years, he and his brother, the late William J. Ehart, built the company into a thriving business of three newspapers (including the Suburban Advertiser and the King of Prussia Courier).
Over the years, he received a number of awards and citations for his editorials, which focused on conservative political and religious issues, including from the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge, the Pro Life Coalition of Southeastern PA, and the American Legion.
They sold the business in 1981, and he retired in 1990. For the next 10 years, he published a newsletter, "That's Right," focusing on conservative causes, national and international politics, and religious issues. He retired in 2000.
Dan attended Malvern Prep, and graduated from St. Joseph's Prep in 1941. His studies at Villanova University were interrupted by World War II; after the war, he attended the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising, and then graduated from St. Joseph's College (now University), Philadelphia, in 1948.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna B. Ehart; four children, Mary Ehart, Christine Fonorow (Ira), Daniel A. Ehart (Lisa) and Thomas B. Ehart (Carol); nine grandchildren: Rachel, Monica, Irena and Emmy Fonorow; James Ehart; and Judah, Lily, Micah and Lucy Ehart; and one great-grandson, Isaak Fonorow.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday March 15, 9:30 AM at St. Katharine of Siena Church, Lancaster & Aberdeen Aves., Wayne, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to Camilla Hall Nursing Home, c/o IHM Mission Advancement, Box 200, Immaculata, PA 19345-0200.
