Daniel F.
Daley
January 15, 1954 – January 30, 2025
Daniel F. Daley passed away on January 30, 2025 at his home in Port Providence, PA. He was 71 years old.
Son of the late Francis Xavier Daley and Mary Ella Becker Daley, Dan was born in Philadelphia PA on January 15, 1954.
Dan, the many years standing, "Mayor of Port," was the beloved husband of Elizabeth B. "Betsy" Daley (Meyers). Devoted father of Patrick I. (Kerry), Sara T. McMaster (Frank) and Cornelius S. (Kristin). Loving "Pop" to Annabel, Zoey, Devon, Elise, Nora, Scarlett and Emory. Dear brother of Mary Jo Daley (Bob Winkleman), Sara DeLeon (Clark), Francis X. Daley, Jr (Patricia), Elizabeth Daley, Thomas Daley (Jeanne), and Anthony Daley (May). He is survived by Leon Gerstenfeld and countless cousins. Beyond his family Dan's life was full of throngs of friends and perhaps even more, "Cronies." Dan loved the life he built with his wife, Betsy, and their children. Dan left an imprint on all those who crossed his path.
Dan was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving between 1975-1979. During this time, Dan served as an electrician's mate on various ships out of San Diego, California. Dan furthered his career and training as an electrician professionally during this tenure at the General Electric/Lockheed Martin companies. He was eternally proud of his trade and was endeared by the homage, "Electricians light up your life."
Throughout his life, Dan was a devout volunteer in his local community. When no one else seemed to care, Dan cared. As the "Locktender," of Lock 60, along the Schuylkill Canal, Dan spent countless volunteer hours working to ensure that the Towpath, waterways and picnic areas were available for public recreation. He was the driving force in many initiatives involving maintenance and protection of the Canal and Schuylkill River as natural lands and spaces that should be preserved.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation on Thursday February 6th from 6 to 8 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore PA 19003 . Interment will be private for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following charities and non-profit organizations:
The Schuylkill Canal Association
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
DAV (Disabled American Veterans)
More than anything else, Dan's hope is that those who are survived by him go out, find a cause, and make a difference in their communities. Life along the Canal will not be the same without Dan. He helped so many navigate the twisted waters of life. Our hearts are warmed knowing that he will watch over the waterways of our souls, the Schuylkill River and its tributaries for eternity.
