Surrounded by his wife and 2 children, Clyde Edward Shelton, gently passed away at his home
on August 20, 2019 at the age of 85. Born and raised in the countryside of Virginia, he called
Farmville home for most of his early years. Clyde attended Hampden Sydney College where
he enjoyed much success on the basketball team. He was quite the athlete; earning himself
the moniker, "Shake 'Em Shelton". After college, Clyde joined the United States Marine Corps,
proudly serving his country will always be one of his greatest accomplishments. Clyde's work
ethic and loyalty was evident as he built a successful 40+ year career with Wheeling Pittsburgh
Steel; he always thrived and persevered in this ever changing industry. On December 21,
1963, he married his true love, Dorothy "Dodie" Goodwin in Jacksonville, Florida and they
would go on to enjoy 55 years of marriage. Together they graciously raised 2 children, Scott
Edward, and Elizabeth Page (Hinkle). Clyde was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing the game
with friends, clients, and mostly his family. He considered himself very fortunate to be a long
time member of Aronimink Golf Club. Clearly, Father's Day was his favorite day to play golf; as
2 of his 4 holes in one occurred on 2 separate Father's Days!
Clyde had a quick wit and an infectious laugh. His soul was compassionate, kind, and giving.
A true gentleman.
Clyde was preceded in death by his father, Walker and his mother, Edith; as well as his sister,
Lois, and brothers, Walker Jr., and John (Jackie). He is survived by his loving wife, Dodie, his
children, Scott and Page, Page's husband, BJ Hinkle and their children, Robert Clyde and
Laney Vivian, nieces Pam Herrmann and Jamie Roberts as well as several other beloved family
members.
A Memorial Service for Clyde will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at
