Catherine Marie
Dugery
July 17, 1935 – October 1, 2022
Catherine "Kathleen" Dugery, RN, of Bryn Mawr died October 1, 2022. Born July 17, 1935 in Philadelphia, she was the beloved daughter of the late John Dugery and Catherine McFadden Dugery. She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings James, Edward (Joan), John (Mary), Margaret, and Daniel. She is survived by her sister, Mary Brandenstein (William). Kathleen most recently resided in Rosemont Presbyterian Village.
Kathleen enjoyed a childhood in a close-knit neighborhood of Mt. Airy, playing dodgeball and rollerskating in the street outside her home. Her infectious laugh was known to many in the surrounding blocks. A graduate of Little Flower High School, she continued her studies and graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and found joy and deep comfort in her faith.
She found her true calling in the nursing profession in a career that spanned four decades. At an early phase of her career while working in California, Kathleen was recognized as Nurse of the Year (providing her with the thrill of riding a float in the Rose Bowl parade). Returning to Philadelphia, she joined Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, in the division of oncology. Treating patients with compassion, humor, and her ever-present positivity, she touched countless lives of cancer patients and their families. She also participated in clinical research trials at Jefferson, always eager to have an impact on cancer treatment. Her devotion to the field and to her patients was an inspiration to her colleagues, family, and friends.
Her commitment to caring for others extended to her family. Kathleen was a devoted daughter and sister, personally caring for her parents and siblings when sick. Her love and joy perhaps shone brightest when she was with her clan of nieces and nephews— playing capture the flag, baking her soda bread, taking them to Ireland, but most importantly loving them fully and unconditionally. Her long life extended this same legacy to her great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited on Friday October 7 th , Viewing 10 to 11 AM with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church,140 East Mt Airy Avenue, Philadelphia with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
