Obituary

Carole Ann Friel's beautiful life and ascension into heaven was celebrated with her husband, Charlie, her six children, their spouses and her grandchildren when they all gathered together to be by her side, as they always were. They were singing, praying, handholding and loving her, as Carole lay peacefully, looking as beautiful and stylish as she always did. Being with her in these final hours is something that they will always remember and cherish forever.

Carole Ann Friel (nee Avery) of Wynnewood, PA, 82, passed away on June 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles ("Charlie") P., her six adoring children and their spouses, Caroline (Bruce) Telep, Kristin (David) Stewart, Lauren, Lynne (Dr. Paul) Brown, Charlie (Devon) and Sara (Kevin) Olender, and her amazing eighteen grandchildren, who called her "Mom Mom", David, Patrick, Brian, Michael, Paul, Jack, Avery, Luke, Mark, Charlie, Sean, Daniel, Sadie, Caroline, Brooke, Michael, Kevin and Hadley. Carole was also the dear sister of the late Sally (Augie) Campiglia, Patricia Ann (the late Gary) Kuether, the late George (the late Anne) Avery, and Georgianna (the late James) Reynolds, and the sister-in-law of the late Eileen, Jack (the late Joan), Bob, and Sally (the late James Ewing and Dr. Frank) Liu.

Carole was born in Glenolden, PA on September 14, 1940, to George and Anne Avery, and later moved to Narberth, PA. After graduating from Holy Child Academy and Harcum College, she went on to work for the DuPont Company, something she was always very proud of. Carole later met her love of her life, Charlie, in Narberth, and they were married on October 15, 1966, at Saint Margaret Church. Carole and Charlie were always inseparable, starting with their young married life through to today. She loved raising her active and athletic six children with Charlie, involved in every detail of their lives, wishing for them to have the beautiful life that she had. This year, Charlie and Carole would have been celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary.

Carole was also a resident of the South End in Ocean City, NJ, where she spent her summers with Charlie and their children and grandchildren. Her favorite memories of Ocean City included playing tennis with her friends, her famous "Saturday Night Dinners" with all of her children and friends and the many awards that she helped her family win in the South End Bicycle Parades and the Ocean City Baby Parades. She devoted weeks to planning for the parades to ensure that her themes, costumes and floats would not be surpassed.

In the winters, Carole was a resident of Jupiter, FL, where she and Charlie lived on the ocean, played tennis and enjoyed dinners with their friends. She passed her love for Jupiter on to her children and grandchildren, who spent many weeks and weekends visiting her and enjoying the sun, beach and lunches at the Jupiter Beach Hotel.

Carole was the best friend to each of her children, talking several times a day on the phone, traveling to all of their games no matter where they were, shopping together at her favorite stores, getting their hair and nails done together, and going out to dinner with them on the weekends. She also adored each one of her precious grandchildren. To this day, she would spend hours looking for the most stylish birthday and Christmas gifts for each one. She was notorious for sending birthday cards to her grandchildren with money that equaled the amount of each child's celebrated age. They loved her endlessly and always visited her to talk, as they adored her fun and vibrant personality. Carole lit up a room when she walked into it with her infectious beauty, style and wit and she naturally drew people to her no matter where she would go.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Wednesday, June 14 from 9:00am to 10:15am and to her Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30am, both at Saint Margaret Church, 208 North Narberth Avenue, Narberth, PA. The interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, PA.
