Obituary

Dr. Carol A. Bocher of Broomall, Pennsylvania and Oneonta, New York, professor emeritus of Hartwick College of Oneonta, passed away April 6, 2008. Dr. Bocher received her undergraduate degree from Chestnut Hill College, where she received the Walsh Philosophy Medal, her Masters from the University of Pennsylvania where she received a University Scholarship, and her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College where she served as a Teaching Fellow.

She joined Hartwick College in 1965 as assistant professor after earlier work in medical research and in the pharmaceutical industry. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 1971, and to Full Professor in 1975. In 1980, she won the Margaret Brigham Bunn Award for Outstanding Teaching. The Bunn Award is awarded annually to a member of the Hartwick Faculty by alumni ballot. Alumni from the class that graduated five years previously are sent ballots. It is the college's most prestigious teaching award.

She was the author or co-author of ten articles in her field of specialization, filled a variety of on-campus roles including the chairmanship of the Pre-Medical Advisory Committee. She was recognized as one of the most able, dedicated and effective members of the teaching staff.

Professor Bocher retired in May 1988, and was made Professor Emeritus for distinguished service to the college.

She is survived by her brother, David (Dolores) of Athens, Georgia, and her sister-in-law Rita (the late Herman Bocher) of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Bocher will be remembered at a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at St. Thomas of Villanova Chapel, 1229 West Lancaster Avenue, Rosemont, PA. Internment will be at Union Cemetery (attached to Zion Lutheran Church), Flourtown, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
