Betty S. Schmidt, 91, of Haverford, PA died Saturday February 1, 2014 at her home in The Quadrangle, Haverford, PA.
Mrs. Schmidt broke the glass ceiling in the 1950's when she rose to become a stock broker at a Philadelphia brokerage firm, long before women were accepted in that role. Mrs. Schmidt was married to Carl F. Schmidt, Jr., whom she met at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School of Communication, after she submitted a memoir that later became a short-lived TV series, "Good Morning World". After she was widowed in 1989, Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Dr. Hans Herlinger of Haverford.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her step-daughter, Marta Tarbell Cagin and her son, Carlos Cagin; by her niece, Barbara DeLong Merrill and by her nephews, Scott, Steven and Peter DeLong. She is also survived by her cousin Miriam Heller, and her devoted dachshund, Maggie.
Burial will take place Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Colllingdale, PA.
