Bessie Guss Lamperez of Bryn Mawr Pa died on November 12, 2019 of illness related to her heart, recurring cancer and lastly a stroke. Bessie was born to George Calvin Guss II and Kathleen McManus Guss on November 27 th , 1940 in Bryn Mawr. A devout Catholic she was a member of Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Bryn Mawr. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Bessie grew up in Bryn Mawr and graduated from Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish School in 1954 and West Catholic High School in 1958. After graduation Bessie worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 17 years. She also volunteered for several years in the day room at the Saint Agnes Church in West Chester.
She married Jack J. Lamperez on November 22 nd , 1969 and recently she happily celebrated their 50th anniversary.
After three years at Delaware County Community College and two years at Rosemont College, she received her BA in History degree from Rosemont College in 1981.
She was a proud member of the Chester County Daughters of the American Revolution. She often discussed her ancestries and their contribution to America. She spent many hours reading their history and visiting many of their gravesites. She also was a founding member of Chester County W.I.S.E. Association (Women's Intellectually Stimulating Events) and attended their events as well as coordinated some meetings.
Bessie loved to read and read many books over her lifetime and especially enjoyed her monthly book club meetings. On her many visits to the library she was given only one rule "don't checkout more books than you can carry". She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her African safari and trip thru China.
She loved animals and always had several dogs and cats for pets over the years. Her mother once warned that Jack should watch her or she would fill up their home with animals.
She loved to interact with her friends especially celebrating each other's birthdays and shopping together. Her favorite store was the dollar store. She had a great sense of humor and a smile that would light up a room when she entered. A 20 year-stage-four breast cancer survivor she enjoyed her monthly dinners with her cancer group which always ended with a robust shout of "cancer sucks".
Bessie's daughter Kathleen Virginia Lamperez was born on April, 15 1977 and Bessie's life changed forever. She loved her daughter greatly and spent many hours with her daughter and her daughter's friends being a caretaker and chaperone driver. Once while Kathleen was learning to drive an inpatient driver blew their horn at the two of them. Bessie gave the driver the finger except it was mistakenly the index finger not the middle finger. The marriage of her daughter to Theo C. Brito and subsequent birth of her granddaughter Julia gave her great pleasure and happiness in her later life.
She is survived by husband Jack J Lamperez, daughter Kathleen Lamperez Brito, granddaughter Julia Lamperez Brito. Son in law Theo C. Brito, sisters-in-laws Louise Guss and Virginia Gore, brother-in-law Ed Gore, Four nephews, two nieces along with 9 grand nephews and three grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father George C Guss and mother Kathleen McManus Guss and brother George C Guss III.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation on Tueday November 19 th from 9 to 10 AM with Funeral Mass to begin at 10 AM at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, 31 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105
