Arlene M. Jackson, Ph.D., passed away on Wednesday January 31, 2007 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Haverford, PA. She was 68.
Daughter of the late Charles and Frances George Jackson, she was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1938. Retired Professor of English Literature at St. Joseph's University for 22 years. Her teaching career also included Wayne State and Oakland University in Michigan. Degrees were earned from Marygrove College, Detroit, Villanova University and the University of Michigan. Her several scholarly research publications and lectures on 19th century literature brought her acclaim in the U.S. and Europe. She was the recipient of many awards and grants including "Outstanding Graduate of Villanova Grad School" in 1986, a National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship for a year's study in London, and recognition as an outstanding teacher.
She was the loving sister of Sr. Lois Hale, I.H.M. of Silver Spring, MD., and Mary McGovern of Trinity, FL. She is also survived by her nieces Laurel Hale and Andrea Forsmans and their children.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday February 3, 10:30 AM at St. Margaret Church, 210 N. Narberth Ave., Narberth, PA. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Friday from 7 to 8:30 PM at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore PA., or from 10 to 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Church
