Ann Mecke
Penrose
January 12, 1932 – June 24, 2023
Ann Mecke Penrose, 91, died peacefully under hospice care at Bryn Mawr Hospital on June 24, 2023, surrounded by her family. The daughter of Janet L. and Charles M. Mecke, Ann was born January 12, 1932 and grew up in Bala Cynwyd, graduating from St. Matthias and the Shipley School. She spent cherished time every summer at her family home in Avalon NJ. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Marjorie Delaney and her husband Bob.
Ann raised her eight children in Narberth and was deeply engaged in that community as her family grew, helping out with PTA events, serving as Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout cookie chairman, providing decades of service to Narberth Community Theater. Her membership at St. Margaret's Catholic Church was a source of great comfort. She worked at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Nursery School in the 1980s and was secretary at Clark and Madera Real Estate for many years. She enjoyed knitting circles at the Narberth Community Library and later story time there with her grandchildren. Ann and Bob moved to the Quadrangle in Haverford in 2016.
Ann leaves a legacy of love and kindness through her many friends and her beloved children and their families: Bob Penrose Jr (Josepha) of Clermont NJ, Nancy Penrose (David Brooks) of Raleigh NC, Judy Penrose Smith of Glenside, Lauren Penrose of Lansdowne, Jean Penrose Arlotti of Scottsdale AZ, Andy Penrose of Havertown, Amy (Jack) Entriken of Kutztown, and Carolyn (Todd) Krulak of Birmingham AL. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Each of these generations has learned from and flourished under Mom's love and attention. The memory and model of that devotion will continue to sustain the family for generations to come.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the devoted caregivers from Waverly Care Associates who made it possible for Mom to remain in her home for the past two years. We cannot overstate our admiration for and indebtedness to these amazing women. We thank them for their caring expertise and their friendship to Mom and the family.
Relatives and friends are invited on Monday July 3rd, 10 to 11 AM Visitation with Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 208 N. Narberth Ave, Narberth, PA. Interment private.
Donations may be made to the Lower Merion Scholarship Fund per Mom's request.
