Ann G.
Curvan
August 23, 1938 – September 25, 2021
Ann Curvan (nee Goff), of Strafford, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25,
2021 at home surrounded in love by her family. She was 83.
Daughter of the late Frederick H. Goff and Cecilia Sarsfield Goff, Ann was born on August 23,
1938 in Fairmont, WV. She grew up in Bridgeport, WV and graduated from West Virginia
University in 1960. After college, Ann moved to Woodbury, NJ to teach English at Woodbury
High School. She met her future husband, Jim, over Labor Day weekend 1961 on Long Beach
Island. Moving to Havertown, PA in 1963 after marrying Jim, Ann taught English at Haverford
High School. Over the years of raising a family, she volunteered extensively in her children's
schools happily performing any necessary job. Some of these included coaching volleyball,
softball, basketball, in addition to forensics and serving as a substitute teacher. After
volunteering for so many years at St. Monica School in Berwyn, the principal asked if she would
like to come back full-time and actually get paid for it because she was there everyday anyway!
So Ann went back to teaching for another 25 years and nothing made her happier than her
students! She retired once from the classroom, missed it so much that she came back as the
school librarian. After retiring in 2004, she was asked to assist in establishing a new library for
LaSalle Academy, a school in Kensington, Philadelphia that is committed to serving the poorest
of the poor who wish to receive a Catholic education. Ann loved Villanova basketball and was a
long time season ticket holder, even though a true Mountaineer at heart. She was a woman of
deep faith and daily Communicant who practiced and taught the Catholic faith. She prepared
new Catholics in the RCIA program at St. Monica Church and was involved in many church
groups, including the Respect Life Ministry and Life in the Spirit prayer group. Ann more than anything
loved children and only wanted the best for them, whether they were her own or not!
Ann courageously battled stage IV esophageal cancer for over 3 ½ years. The family is
especially grateful for the loving care and support of Dr. Sameer Gupta, MD and the nurses at
BMMSA.
Ann was the beloved wife of James J. Curvan for 58 years. Loving and devoted mother of
Kathleen Lynch (Lenny), Elizabeth Ann Oberkircher (Peter), and Timothy (Tracy). Dear Anigram
to Philip, Conor, Fionan, Andrew, Aine, Cecilia, TJ, Aidan, Zachary, and Colin. Loving sister to
Julie McKeen (Jerry) and the late Frederick Goff.
Relatives and friends are invited on Saturday October 2, 9:30 AM Visitation followed by
11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Monica Church, 63 Main Avenue, Berwyn, PA.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
**The family strongly encourages that masks be used at the visitation and the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Respect Life Ministry at Saint Monica Parish,
635 First Ave. Berwyn PA 19312 or to La Salle Academy, 1434 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122.
